The Definite Article Story

Ron’s biggest dream was to travel around the world. But there were hard times: the Second World War. At that time the universe could not give such present to Ron. But Ron didn’t give up, he did everything he could to explore the world. Hoping to see the sky clear of planes and thunder one day, he wanted at least to take a quick peek at the Library of Congress, because he knew it held all kinds of knowledge. One day Ron eavesdroped on his neighbours, the Evans family, who were discussing the latest issue of NY times, which they had gotten in the morning. Ron never had problems with the English language, but he had with people who spoke with accent, especially with the British. In addition, the Evans had just returned from the Far East, where they had lived for 5 years. You can’t imagine how hard it was to understand them. However, Ron did understand the main idea - a small breather was coming up. It was a sign for Ron. In the middle of the night he left his home, and SOMEHOW managed to sneak in to the library. Ron didn’t know the exact road, but on his way he met the homeless, who told him the right way. Besided numerous books in the library, there were some awards, for instance, the Highest Number Of Readers Award, and even the Nobel Prize for something Ron could not see, because if was dark. But he found the switch, turned on the light in the small hall, and said, "Thank you for the light bulb, Mr. Edison." Going down the hall he started to hear the music. Ron thought that it was strange that someone was in the library at such late hour. The music was coming from the second floor. Ron was curious, and he went upstairs to find out, who was playing. It was an old woman illuminated by a small candle. She was playing the piano, but suddenly stopped. She saw Ron’s silhouette, and told him to come up to the light. Ron thought that it was the end of his night adventure, but the lady was not angry. She asked the boy to explain himself, and then offered him a tour trough the library. Ron was over the moon. Ms. Hill, the old lady, showed Ron as many books about the geography of the world as they could possibly read by the morning. Ron learned about one of the longest river in the world the Amazon, about the Bering sea, about an endless Sahara Desert, about the Vatican, and many others.
In the morning the main doors to the library burst opened, and soldiers came in, crying and shouting. It was clear, that the War had ended.
